About Us

What is gluten? We unknowingly love gluten which is found in wheat, barley and rye. We love it because it makes our sauces and soups thick, our breads spongy, our local favorite 'pan mee' stretchy. But for some of us it is truly bad or can be life threatening. For people who suffers from chronic digestive disorder (celiac disease) and those sensitive to it, stomach cramps, diarrhea and bloating.

I'm one of those who is sensitive to it, and I didn't know it till now.

Many years ago, my husband and I started a playschool to school our children. At the Big Blue Marble, we've had many children and some of them could not eat with their friends because they are on this special gluten-free diet. We knew very little of this diet then, and we just followed parents' request of what her child can or cannot eat.

So in my search of finding what to do next after retiring from the advertising business, it led me to asking, what is my passion? I have a passion for people especially children (having lost one myself). And I know I want to do something completely different and something that allows me to continue to contribute positively to people's lives. I also have a passion for food. Not so much the eating part but the cooking and the baking (I'm one who is interested in the journey). I then revisited my interest in gluten-free diet.

"Mother's Gluten-free Kitchen" is dedicated to mothers who are caring for children who are gluten intolerance (not those with celiac condition). This is my way of contributing joy and beauty in their lives especially on their birthdays for they now can have a wow cake with 2-D or 3-D designs. And more importantly, mothers would also know that the cake won't hurt them.

These gluten-free cakes are also for those who are like me, sensitive to gluten,  as well as those who choose to take out gluten in their desserts.

Rest assured, I am my biggest critic, and therefore the values I bring along with the cakes I make is integrity, responsibility as well as caring for what goes into the cake.

The cakes "Mother's" bake are to the best of my knowledge gluten-free and whenever possible, organic.
